
1/4 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp peppermint extract
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 2/3 cups flour
1/8 tsp salt
red food coloring or paste
In a mixer bowl toss in butter and powdered sugar and beat until light and fluffy on medium speed. The add egg, peppermint extract and vanilla blending well. Combine flour and salt then add to the mixture which will be sticky. Separate the dough in half and add red coloring to one part and the other is plain (or green). Next, toss your hands into flour and roll the dough into 5" rope. Finally you twist the 2 colors together into a candy cane shape and bake at 350 for about 7 minutes or when the edges are very, very lightly browned, don't over cook. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for several minutes after removing from the oven.
