Wow!! What a turn out. It was fantastic seeing everyone today and a big welcome to those of you who came for the first time. Although I didn't have the opportunity to chat with everyone. I wanted to let those of you who came during the middle of the class or who had to leave early that I saw you and hope you had a good time. If any of you have any questions, you are very welcomed to ask me.
Today I demonstrated, with the help of many enthusiastic volunteers, 3 different soups. A cheesy chowder, Mulligatawny and Asparagus soup. They are all very different but easy to make. I also, made two types of breads, a batter bread with cheese and an oatmeal bread. I thought these would be a nice addition to your menus and they do not take to much time to make. I have added all of the recipes today for your convenience.
Many have asked what the difference is between a batter bread and yeast bread. Batter breads are not kneaded like most yeast breads. They are a bit coarser and not as pretty looking as a yeast bread. Batter breads need to be made in a electric mixer so the gluten will develop, this replaces the kneading of the batter. So the great fact about batter bread is you toss it all in a bowl and wait. Scrape down, form, wait. Finally, bake and eat. (The last part is my favorite)
I listed all of the basic pantry items that will help you stock your shelves. If it seems overwhelming just start slow and work down the list. Soon you will be amazed that you actually have everything. Next step, is continually restocking, and watching sales.
All in all today was a fun day. All of you are fabulous. I really do enjoy all of your suggestions, comments, and most especially sharing with me all of your kitchen successes. Have a great time cookin' in your home and see ya all in March.
