Winter Treats

2 tsp yeast
1/2 tsp sugar

3 eggs
6 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp warm water, 110 degrees
2 tbsp butter, melted
3/4 cup milk

1/4 cup half-and-half
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 1/4 cups
all-purpose flour
Canola oil for frying

Toss the yeast, 1/2 tsp sugar and the warm water into a small bowl and let sit while preparing the liquid ingredients. In an electric mixer toss in the eggs, 6 tbsp sugar and mixed together. Toss in the butter, milk, half and half then change to a dough hook. Add 1 cup of flour at a time until the dough pulls from the sides. Knead for about 3 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise until doubled. Punch down and roll dough out to fit into a 12x17 baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise until its doubled. Fill a deep frying pan or electric fryer with canola oil and heat to 360 degrees.

Cut the dough into 1 or 2 inch squares. Next place the squares into the oil and lightly brown on each side, about 1 to 2 minutes.

Place on a plate with paper towels to let drain. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar or sugar. I place the sugar or cinnamon sugar in a ziploc bag and shake until coated well. Serve warm or cold.

We like them hot. They are not heavy but nice treat for anyone
