Chili with a hint of Italian

1 lb. ground beef (Costco)
1/2 lb. Italian sausage ( I get mine at Costco)
1 can of diced tomatoes (28oz)
1 can kidney beans (16oz) If you use dried measure 1 cup after soaking.
1 cup onions
1/4 cup beef broth
1 cup water
1 cup mushrooms
1 cup zucchini
1 red pepper
1/2 cup celery
3 tbsp fresh parsley (if using dried 2 tsp), finely chopped
1 can tomato sauce (8oz)
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp garlic, minced
1/2 tsp salt

If you purchase the Italian sausage from Costco it comes in links.  I cut  the sheath or casing and remove the sausage first then toss it in a large pan with the beef and cook on med. heat.  Drain the meat and toss into a large pot.  Next, toss in all the remain ingredients. Cover and bring to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer  for 2 to 3 hours.

Note- You can use a crockpot with this.  My dad uses a crockpot and it cooks very well. If using a crockpot cover and cook on low for 6 hours.

Tarantino mild Italian Sausage is what I get at Costco.  They have a hot  Italian Sausage that will add a nice kick to this chili.   It also comes in chicken and pork.
